Mark A. McCann is currently serving his second term as Prosecuting Attorney for Howard County, Indiana and has announced his candidacy for re-election. McCann is seeking to be re-elected as the Prosecuting Attorney in 2018. The primary election is scheduled for May 8, 2018.
McCann served as the Chief Deputy Prosecutor for 16 years and was elected Prosecutor in 2010.
McCann has prosecuted the most serious street crimes and conducted complex white-collar investigations. During his first term as Prosecutor, McCann has worked with law enforcement and the community to help prevent crime and develop innovative and practical solutions to attack crime at its early stages in a proactive, versus reactive, manner, and will continue to do so in the future. McCann has focused not only on crimes against persons, but on ensuring the safety of our children from being abused or becoming the targets of sexual predators as well.
McCann is a 1982 graduate of Haworth High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice from Indiana University in 1986. McCann earned his law degree from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1990.
McCann is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association, Howard County Bar Association, and the National District Attorneys Association. McCann is admitted to practice in Indiana, before the Northern and Southern Federal District Courts of Indiana, and before the United States Supreme Court.
McCann has been married to his wife, Julia, for 27 years and they have one daughter.
